Firefox display issue helvetica neue bold12/27/2022 ![]() If I made the size smaller, like 10-12px it would display normally, in the Arial standard replacement font defined in the windows registry. The first test I did was mucking with CSS that applied the "helvetica" font. ![]() I've done quite a few tests with this to figure out the problem. So 3.6 must have changed something settings wise that I haven't looked at. I first noticed after upgrading from 3.5. I'm using Firefox 3.6, on Windows 7 64 bit. I would just like to point out that when website uses "helvetica" as the first/default font firefox will produce some completely mangled character garbage in place of the actual letters that should be showing. Update: Pretty sure it's just Helvetica Neue having done some snooping. Could even build on it to allow the user to decide from a selection of deemed 'web safe fonts' to replace Helvetica with (Trebuchet MS for example). Ofcourse Helvetica is rendered beautifully on Mac (I work with both OS's) so this would be targetted at Windows users with the same problem. So I'm wondering if anyone is capable of developing this? Alternatively I could build this myself (I'm no programmer, but I'm willing to learn the basics) or if anyone knows of an extension that already handles this functionality that would be much appreciated. Below about 24px in size it's practically illegible, with letter spacing incorrect and very bold text weight. ![]() The reason for this is that, for whatever reason, Windows systems seem to really struggle with the Helvetica font. ![]() I've been looking around for an addon that specifically finds any use of Helvetica or any of it's related families and changes that font to Arial. ![]()
